A smart campus refers to an intelligent campus, which also refers to the campus construction carried out according to intelligent standards. The standard definition of a smart campus in the national standard GB/T 36342 "Overall Framework of Smart Campus" is the organic connection between physical space and information space, enabling anyone, anytime, anywhere to easily access resources and services.

Smart campuses are usually composed of campus infrastructure centered on sensor networks and intelligent hardware, as well as intelligent software systems deployed on cloud servers in data centers. Common functions can be divided into four major sections: smart teaching environment, smart teaching resources, smart campus management, and smart campus services.

Building a digital space on the basis of traditional campuses to digitize everything from environmental information (including classrooms, laboratories, etc.), resource information (such as books, lectures, courseware, etc.) to application information (including teaching, management, services, office, etc.), thus providing effective support for resource and service sharing. This approach is called a digital campus; Smart campus is the further development and enhancement of digital campus, and a higher form of educational informatization.
